Smart – from English "smart". In recent years in Odessa, the design and construction of compact apartments, which some call smart-apartments or studios, has become increasingly popular. Let's figure out what the difference is and whether such apartments are really "smart".
History of the emergence of studios
Studio apartments have appeared quite some time ago. For the first time, the concept of apartments with "free layout" was presented by German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the 1920s of the last century. He proposed a project for a three-story multi-apartment building, in which the bathroom and kitchen were separated into separate rooms, and the remaining space was divided by movable partitions. Layout of a studio apartment
Studio apartment - this is an autonomous apartment consisting of one room and a bathroom. The area of such apartments usually ranges from 30 to 40 m2. The room should function as a bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The living area in a studio can be partial, for example, half-separated by a wall from other zones. Such a wall adds more privacy for the owner in case of guests arriving. Instead of a wall, a closet, sliding system, or screen can be installed. In the kitchen area, the use of a gas stove is prohibited; only electric stoves (induction or with an electric heater) can be used.
Smart-apartment
In theory, the main difference of a smart-apartment is that, besides its small size, its layout and technical setup must be so well thought out that, despite the small area, living in it should be as comfortable as possible.
This is not an easy task, considering that the size of such a tiny unit can range from 18 to 25 m2.
What are the advantages of small apartments
The cost of the apartment, or, as they say, here you go – that’s the first advantage. Such apartments make an excellent start for young families or students with limited budgets who wish to live independently.
The second advantage is that repairing such an object requires fewer funds. Fewer walls, no interior partitions, fewer consumables (plaster, wallpaper, baseboards, etc.).
Moreover, you can save on climate control equipment, as the space can be easily heated or cooled with a single air conditioner. Accordingly, with a smaller area, utility bills are lower, and cleaning such a tiny unit and keeping it clean is as easy as pie.
Furnishing smart-apartments
Due to the small area requiring a smart approach to its arrangement, smart-apartments often use solutions that include
transformer furniture. This can be simultaneously a wardrobe-sofa-bed, which during the day serves as a wardrobe or sofa, and at night – a bed.
