The future is approaching so rapidly and conquering what seemed like unimaginable positions that we can only watch it with astonishment and admiration.
One of the most progressive companies in the world of technology – Tesla – is building a fully independent eco-village near Amsterdam. With its own energy supply, own food production, waste recycling, - this settlement will stand out for its high level of technological provision and comprehensive use of modern technologies.
For example, each house will be protected by a glass frame, which will reduce heating costs in winter and also allow growing fruits and vegetables on one's own plot year-round.
At the beginning of next year, 25 families will already be able to settle in this unusual village. The houses will be arranged in a circle, in the center of which there is a greenhouse, electric vehicle charging stations, a farm, a lake with fish, parking lots, and public areas.
The project is overseen by the Dutch company ReGen, whose goal is to implement food production in such modern-type settlements. Based on statistical data, one can see that the amount of land and forests is decreasing, and the unevenness of areas where products are grown is increasing, which means that vegetables and fruits have to travel great distances before they reach your table. It is also not worth mentioning the means by which their freshness is artificially maintained.
In the settlements offered by ReGen, products are grown using hydroponics – a special container where, instead of soil, the roots are nourished by water enriched with nutrients. This allows vegetables and fruits to be grown on shelves – the so-called vertical system, where they grow ten times faster and end up directly on the table.
According to ReGen's calculations, a family of three needs an area of 639 m2, whereas in a traditional farm this figure reaches 8100 m2. It includes the area of the dwelling itself, garden, vegetable plot, livestock farm, and water storage tanks.
120 m2 – dwelling, 40 m2 – greenhouses, 300 m2 – hydroponics complex, 100 m2 – ordinary vegetable garden, 25 m2 – farm, 34 m2 – solar panels, 20 m2 – fresh water storage.
If this concept gains popularity, such colonies will be built in Northern Europe and the UAE, not to mention the possibility of creating similar settlements worldwide.
