Do you think carpet-onions are already a thing of the past? What about photos on the street of magical carpets?
This is not a fairy‐tale street existing only in imagination; it is a quite real street that blossoms in June during the Flower Carpet Day in La Orotava, Tenerife, during the Corpus Christi festival.
The idea itself arose one and a half centuries ago, when members of the Monteverde family decorated the threshold of their home with such a carpet to delight the festive procession. Since then, creating sand paintings has become a lovely annual tradition of the city.

On the holiday day, closer to noon, the ground is transformed thanks to living carpets made of flowers and sand. With the first rays of sun, residents decorate the streets with flower petals, colored stones, sawdust, and volcanic sand of various shades, creating true masterpieces with its help! The main subjects for the carpets are biblical stories and floral ornaments.
The main sand carpet painting is located in front of the town hall and is created over 40 days by a team of 10 people. In 2006, a Guinness World Record was even set here for creating such a carpet covering 950 square meters.
