Construction of the Greek Park, which was mentioned in the article about Odessa's plans for 2017, is acquiring new details.
Company "Gephest", responsible for creating the park, conducted geological and engineering studies that showed that the object cannot be built in its originally conceived form. Not without the influence of the public and criticism accompanying this project, it was decided to significantly reduce the number of future facilities that make up the overall picture of the Greek Park.
The slopes on which construction is underway are in a deplorable state and need to be reinforced. Director of "Gephest" Alexander Protsenko said that the reinforcement will be carried out by installing a powerful belt of piles, which he explained necessitated the prior felling of trees that so outraged the public.
In addition to reinforcing the slope, the external appearance of the park is also changing. There are practically no pompous 'old-style' objects left that disrupted the overall ensemble with the Vorontsov Palace. The terrace will become more strict and the number of pavilions on it will decrease. Installation of a lift for descending from the seaside boulevard to the park is planned.
The non-working fountain will turn into a lecture theater, and on another fountain a sculpture of Mikhail Revya – a bronze tree – will be installed. On the upper terrace, an open-air museum of Greek sculptures will appear, and the walking paths with lighting and benches will be equipped with Wi-Fi access points and charging stations for gadgets.
The load on the slopes will be significantly reduced (as well as the number of pavilions previously planned), the only thing that will remain is the fish restaurant, which is subject to restoration.
